Until further notice, I'm retiring from Politics

Politics is such an interesting subject for me. Although a lot of people consider that it doesn't immediately affect their lives, I beg to differ. It's usually the shock waves that reach us.

I've always been passionate about politics and history. The reader can tell from the size of Politics tag how it influences me, and by the ribbon on the top of the page why it matters to me. However, it's been few months short of two years that I started putting my thoughts into electronically written words. But it seems I didn't have endurance to withstand the negative aura surrounding the region. I admit it, I despaired.

Things never seem to change around here. It feels like a room that is closing in, and in the process suffocating any gesture of hope. Palestine continue to robbed and raped, people are still dying, Arabs are still hibernating, and we are at the brink of the point of no return right in the middle of the shit hole. Seeing the same old ugly faces on TV makes me sick to the stomach. Kings and Pawns on a chess board, we are being moved by the same players. By the end of the game, we are all shoved in the same box, but no one seems to understand.

I'll buy myself about two dozen of poodles, and a couple of golden retrievers and start lecturing them about how they should behave.

I'm sick of writing about the same old hopelessness.

And so, until further notice, I'm retiring from writing about politics. Next time I write a piece about, it will something positive to cheer about. That much I promise myself.

Heeeb ya 3azeezi,

You are not supposed to guarantee success from the effort you do. You are required to do the effort and HOPE for success, and that's what you'll be judge on.

Dale Carnegie said: "The person who gets the farthest is generally the one who is willing to do and dare. The sure-thing boat never gets far from shore."

And when Thomas Addison was asked about his 1000 failures to make the light bulb, he said: "I have not failed 1,000 times. I have successfully discovered 1,000 ways to NOT make a light bulb."

I think you need to look at this from a different angle, and reshuffle and rearrange your thoughts, goals, and expectations. This will tremendously help and support your wonderful efforts.

To encourage you more, it's useful to read or listen to stories of others who share the same issues. I would recommend listening to this lecture series:
http://www.islamway.com/?iw_s=Scholar&iw_a=series&series_id=5656&scholar_id=33

This is one of the best audio series I have ever listened to, and would be something nice to listen to while driving.

If you have time to read, or like to read, you should get your hands on "7 Habits Of Highly Effective People". This is a classic book for such situations.

If you don't have time to read, you can read a very short book called "Who Moved My Cheese". The book is for adults, but it's very short and feels like kids story. DON'T underestimate the value of it. Very powerful.

I hope these pointers will help.

You sound burned out, and like Basel advised, getting some renewal and refreshment.

I find politics is delving into the worst of the human soul, casting a dark cloud over even sunny days. It's not a good frame of mind to live out of, or from which to frame days.

I will be praying for you, that Jesus' peace will comfort and bless you as you break.

Kinzi and Basel.. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I'm not trying to be dramatic about it, but sometimes you feels it's all going in vain. So maybe I'm just venting my frustration, but you never know. Something might happen that will tick me off, and I go back to my nagging grumpy self again :)..

But seriously, thank you.

Personally, I think when the Arab world decides that it actually *doesn't* revolve around Israel, some progress can be made on the issue of Israel/Palestine. Arabs gibe Israelis all power over their lives when they blame Israel for all their problems.

It's like if I blamed my boss for at work for my marital problems (job stress making me argumentative), my jackass friends (at least they agree with me when I rant about my boss!), my car breaking down (too busy working to maintain it properly), and so on... how am I ever gonna fix that stuff? It's not under my control, is it? I've assigned ownership of all my baggage to somebody else, so unless my boss wants to fix those problems for me they ain't gettin fixed.
